ChemDoodle 3D now includes several anti-aliasing methods for creating beautiful graphics, including through the deferred rendering pipeline.

Executive Summary

ChemDoodle 3D v7.5 focuses on new anti-aliasing methods for the deferred rendering pipeline and parallelization of the surface mesh generation system. Other minor improvements are also included.

Additions

  1. Much of the surface mesh generation system has been parallelized. Parallel processing allows for significant performance improvements along the entire mesh generation procedure, including function calculation, triangulation, smoothing and coloring. You may disable parallel processing for surface mesh generation in ChemDoodle 3D by deselecting the Enable Parallel Processing option in the Functions tab of the Settings window, under the Surface Mesh Generation section.
  2. Fast Approximate anti-aliasing (FXAA) and Subpixel Morphological anti-aliasing (SMAA) methods have been implemented for the deferred rendering pipeline, allowing for even more beautiful graphics when using the advanced deferred rendering features where hardware accelerated Multisample anti-aliasing (MSAA) is not possible. FXAA is enabled by default.
  3. You may now define the default tool selected when ChemDoodle 3D is opened (Settings>Controls>Drawing Controls>Default Tool). This setting will also change the tool when a tab for a blank scene is selected.

Fixes

  1. Corrected the ChemSpider connection in the MolGrabber widget.
  2. When loading back in a surface from a file, the color function was incorrectly calculated. This issue has been corrected.
  3. Fixed issue where blank lines and split lines in CIF files caused input problems.
