General Licensing Questions
- Do I own the copyright to the output of your software?
You own the copyright on any output created from licensed copies of our software.
Please note, the glassware graphics and BioArt graphics provided in ChemDoodle 2D are copyright of iChemLabs. They may be used to create your copyrighted figures, but using ChemDoodle 2D to output the glassware graphics or the BioArt graphics for the sole purpose of publishing, selling, or distributing them individually or as a set is forbidden.
- Am I required to cite or reference your software?
Attribution of graphics and output to ChemDoodle is appreciated but not required.
If you do decide to reference the ChemDoodle software, you will find reference templates in the Help>References menu item in the software you are using. In the tree on the left hand side of the window that appears, you will also find a section with Reviews of iChemLabs Software for your copying convenience. Thank you!
- Can I review your end user license agreement (EULA)?
Yes, please click here to review the iChemLabs software EULA.
- Our institution requests changes to your EULA, is that possible?
The short answer is no.
The long answer is our prices are based on our standard EULA, and you are asking for a custom license. Most commonly, your institution wants to change the jurisdiction and allow for license transfer rights. For jursidiction changes, we would need to hire legal counsel in that jurisdiction to review the custom license and retain them specifically for you. License transferal is a reseller right, and we must do our due diligence to protect and compensate iChemLabs if you sell/transfer our licenses or support. Our prices would change accordingly to provide you with these additional rights, and those costs are usually significant. You will be responsible for paying for any legal review of the custom license in advance.
Most customers accept the standard EULA.
- How many computers can I use my license on?
Every license can be activated twice, so you may activate on up to two (2) computers. This allows you (the registered user) to use our software on two (2) computers at the same time. For more than two (2) computers at the same time, you will need to purchase additional licenses.
If you have run out of activations on your license, you may reset your license code here: License Reset
- Can I transfer my license to another user?
No. Our products are licensed to the named purchaser only. If your business/organization has purchased multiple copies, you are free to distribute them within your organization as you see fit. But you may not transfer a license outside of your organization. Only the email registered to the license may contact iChemLabs for support.
- I will be replacing my computer soon, can I activate on the new computer as well?
Yes, you have control over your license activations. To transfer your license to a new computer, please see these instructions.
- On our one lab computer, one generic user account is used by everyone, can a single license be shared by everyone?
No. Our products are licensed to the named purchaser only. If you have lab computers used by many students or employees, you should consider purchasing a site license which will give an unlimited number of students or employees access to iChemLabs software. This allows use on campus and off campus as well as lab computers.
- Can I activate my license on macOS and Windows?
Yes, our licenses do not restrict which operating system you can activate on, and you may activate on different operating systems. So you can activate on Windows, macOS and Linux. You can even deactivate your license on one operating system to switch to another operating system if you choose.
- Are updates and support included?
As long as your license is active, you will receive access to all updates and get free email support.
