We are pleased to introduce version 12.11 of our ChemDoodle 2D software. This update is free for all ChemDoodle subscriptions, Lifetime and Site licenses. Licenses are as little as $29, and we have a free trial available at: https://www.chemdoodle.com/
ChemDoodle 2D v12.11 includes a new color chooser pane to quickly use recent colors.
Executive Summary
Version 12.11.0 is a feature update for ChemDoodle 2D. Major features include a function to generate text descriptions of your figures, a fully native file chooser, improved MRV file support, a new recent colors color chooser pane and more!Additions
- Generate text descriptions of selected content (also known a "alt" text). The algorithm attempts to create an accurate, thorough, instantaneous, consistent, canonical text description of chemical figures based on IUPAC naming rules. No LLM or AI use. Individual molecules, multiple molecules, and reactions are supported. Please see section 13.18 of the user guide for more information.
- A brand new, custom, native file chooser has been built and included for Windows, macOS and Linux which will enable you to use all of the features of the system file chooser in ChemDoodle. Issues regarding accessibility tools on macOS do not affect this new file chooser.
- Added a new style to render implicit hydrogens in the defined hydrogen element color (including subscript), as opposed to the color of the heteroatom it is attached to.
- Added a Content>Highlight menu item so you may add an accelerator to it.
- Improved MRV file support including: input of abbreviations from Sgroups, removing markup from text, bond forming MEflows are supported, multiline text is correctly rendered, added an option to input lone pair attributes, and support for R group numbers.
- SVGs are now added to the system clipboard when you copy in ChemDoodle. You may disallow SVG in the Settings window under the Clipboard tab.
- A new interface has been added to the color choosers to pick from the most recent colors chosen.
- Font sizes 1-5 have been added to the main toolbar dropdown.
- OPSIN has been updated to v2.9.
Fixes
- Improved look of cursors on higher DPI screens on Windows.
- The stoichiometry table has been reworked by renaming the Equivalents row to Coefficients and adding in a new Equivalents row under a better definition. Coefficients are now automatically filled in as explicit values that may be changed at any time.
- Stopped stoichiometry table edit from beeping on valid use of escape or enter keys.
- When editing stoichiometry tables, the escape key now cancels the change instead of committing.
- Fixed bug where a stoichiometry table would corrupt if the drawn reaction used to create it was deleted before the first entry in the table.
- Changed the rounding system when outputting numbers to text to nearest round from banker's round.
- Fixed the bad rendering of pusher in a certain edge case.
- Fixed bug where newly drawn charges do not respond to the style sheet with regards to the display color: attributes are the color defined, charges and symbols are black if the default attribute gray is defined, otherwise charges and symbols are assigned the defined attributes color.
- Corrected issue where editing a text field or atom label doesn't reset undo/redo buttons on main toolbar when the text field is closed.
- Fixed one case of poor attribute placement locations (in between two single bonds, pick smaller angle; we now only do this if the label isn't visible).
- Fixed issue where inserting a symbol via the Symbol widget drops label formatting.
- Restoring default settings now also correctly sets up the file choosers (a restart is no longer required).
- Avoided redundant duplicate file notification if the file chooser is native and already asks to override.
- Ambiguous stereo wedges in MDL files are now input as wavy wedge bonds, matching BioVia Draw.
- Resolved issue opening ChemDraw files containing bitmap images.
- The keybinding for the rectangular marquee tool is now properly stored through application restarts.
- Improvements to quick color button functionality, only remembering colors when committed and not cancelled.
- Fixed issue where Templates widget atoms were not reset for implicit hydrogens and showing terminal carbon labels after placing in document.
- Widget buttons that do not place content in the document now avoid focusing the document on click.
- Fixed bug regarding unicode selection of glyphs that have no content in the Symbols widget.
- Fixed icosahedron template.
